The Knights opened the season at Salzwedel field against Gustavus Adolphus College and earned a 2-1 victory in full time. The Orange & Black started off strong with a goal from

Kevin Duque in the 26th minute. The Gusties answered in the 76th minute with a goal of their own to knot the game at one, but after drawing a free kick,
Payton Chapman fired a goal past the keeper in the 80th minute to give the Knights a 2-1 advantage. The Knights would hold on to this lead with good defense and a five save showing from goalkeeper
Bo McMahon. Despite losing the Gusties out shot Wartburg 9-8 and had a 4-1 corner kick advantage.
Knox College
Wartburg travels to Knox College for its first road match of the 2021 season on Saturday, Sept. 4 set for 2 p.m. Knox College opened its season with a road loss at Dominican University (Ill.) on Wednesday, Sept 1. Dominican struck early with a goal in the 13th minute and Knox couldn't respond despite a save after Knox's Rafael Adeyemi had a late shot on goal that was saved. The Prairie Fire were out shot 11-6 overall and 9-2 shots on goal. The last time Knox faced Wartburg was in the 2019 season where the final score was a 2-2 tie after two overtimes at Salzwedel Field.
Macalester College
After the first road test of the year the Knights are back home to face Macalester College on Monday, Sept. 6 at 5:30 p.m. Macalester opened the season Wednesday, Sept. 1 at home and came away with a 2-1 2OT victory against Viterbro University (Wis.). Both teams ended the game even in shots on goal, but Viterbro had a slight edge in shots 14-11. The scoring got off to a hot start with both teams scorng within the first seven minutes of play and then not again until the 108th minute when Silas Southworth put in the game-winning goal for the Scots. Macalester is looking for revenge after its last matchup with Wartburg, which was a 2-1 loss at Salzwedel Field in the 2019 season.
