Knights Edged 12-10 by Augustana

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Wartburg lacrosse fell to Augustana College 12-10 in a back-and-forth battle today on the road. The Knights fall to 0-5 on the season with all losses coming to non-conference opponents.
 
Game Summary
The Vikings scored early with a goal in the first minute of the game and got out to a 3-0 lead just three minutes into the first period. Ellie Johnson got the Orange & Black on the board with 8:06 left in the first after a free-position goal made the score 3-1. Bri Greiskalns scored shortly after to bring the Knights within one to close the first quarter.
 
Augustana scored two goals to open the second quarter making the score 5-2 after Margaret Cecilio scored her third and fourth goal of the game. Lindsay Langford responded with a goal coming from an assist from Greiskalns. The Knights gave up two goals back-to-back but closed the half with three unanswered goals from Johnson and Greiskalns. Augustana took a 7-6 lead into the half.
 
The Orange & Black picked up where they left off out of the break and started the third period with four unanswered goals to take a 10-7 lead. Johnson scored two of the four goals while Madalynn Burke and Greiskalns each put a goal in as well.
 
The Vikings closed the third with two goals in the last five minutes to make the score 10-9 Wartburg heading into the fourth. Augustana tied the game just two minutes into the period and didn't look back. The Knights were unable to score in the fourth and the Vikings closed the game on a 3-0 run to win 12-10.
 
Wartburg was outshot 38-20 in total shots and 27-13 in shots on goal in the contest. The Knights were slightly more efficient in clear attempts and grabbed more groundballs with a 12-10 advantage.
 
Game Leaders
Johnson and Greiskalns led the Knights' offense with four goals each. Johnson scored three of her four goals from free-position attempts and was 75% in free-position attempts. The freshman recorded a team-high six shots on goal and five draw controls. Greiskalns recorded five points with four goals and the teams only assist. She also had four groundballs and draw controls.
 
Burke scored her first collegiate goal today and Langford added her third of the season.
 
Alyson Hasner started in goal and recorded 15 saves with 27 shots on goal faced. The goalkeeper tied for a team-high four groundballs in the contest to bring her season total to 18.
 
Next Time Out
The Orange & Black are in action next on Tuesday, Mar. 15 at 6 p.m. with a makeup game against Clarke University at home.
