Lacrosse Wins Second Straight at Home

WAVERLY, Iowa – Wartburg lacrosse earned its second straight home victory on Sunday, Mar. 20 as they defeated Marian University 15-5 to move to 2-5 overall this season.
 
Game Summary
The Knights were on the attack early with goals from Britta Solheim and Ellie Johnson to put them up 2-0 just two minutes into the contest. The Orange & Black dominated the rest of the first quarter by scoring two more goals and allowing zero shots from Marian. The third goal was scored by Johnson and Bri Greiskalns got her first goal of the game with 2:16 remaining in the period to make it 4-0.
 
Greiskalns scored another goal to start the second quarter, but the Sabres responded with their first goal after a free position attempt led to the score. After two more missed shots from Marian, Greiskalns found the net again, following a turnover, to make the score 6-1 Wartburg. The Sabres scored again with the Knights playing shorthanded defense, but Greiskalns answered with her third goal of the period.
 
The Knights led 7-2 heading into halftime.
 
Following missed attempts from Marian, the Orange & Black scored three minutes into the second half when Johnson scored her third goal of the game. Greiskalns scored again minuetes later to bring the score to 9-2. Madalyn Burke scored her first goal of the contest off an assist from Greiskalns and Solheim kept the run going with her second goal. After goals from each side, Lindsay Langford closed the quarter with a goal to make it 13-3 after three.
 
Langford and Greiskalns both added a goal in the fourth to keep the continuous clock rolling and the Knights are now winners of their last two.
 
The Orange & Black outshot Marian 25-15 in total shots and doubled the shots on goal 18-9.
 
Game Leaders
Greiskalns finished the contest with six goals and one assist for a game-high seven total points. The junior was a key component of the defense as well with a team-high six caused turnovers and nine groundballs.
 
Johnson helped pace the offensive attack with four goals scored from seven total shots. Johnson also led the team in draw controls with six.
 
Alyson Hasner recorded four saves after facing 18 shots as she earned her second win in goal this season. The freshman also picked up three groundballs for the Knights.
 
Next Time Out
The Knights play next on Saturday, Mar. 26 on the road against Edgewood College at 12 p.m.
