Wartburg Softball Shuts Out Adrian and Eastern

CLERMONT, Fla.— Shutting out both opponents on day three of the Spring Games, the Wartburg College Knights posted victories over Adrian (8-0) and Eastern (6-0).

Tarah Wehde's 2 RBI's came early in the first, hit a double as Olivia Brecht and Kaylie Springer scored for the Orange & Black. Springer was involved in the next scoring run for the Knights, hitting a single to right field as Sydney Fellows crossed home plate. In the third, Fellows hit a flyout to left field as Ella Link added to the lead.
 
Brecht added her second run of the game in the fifth. Link would be the second Knights player in game one to record two runs, scoring on Reegan Deputy's walk in the fifth. Hannah Happ single RBI brought home Lauren Frerichs for the eighth and final run of the game.
 
Carly Salutric recorded a completed game, allowing only two hits in the game.
 
Wartburg 6, Eastern 0
 
Brecht grounded out to the mound as Springer broke through in the first inning as the Knights took an early 1-0 lead. Fellows hit a 2 RBI single to left field as Springer and Reegan Feeley gave the Knights a 3-0 advantage.
 
Brecht continued to be an offensive presence, hitting an RBI double to left field as Fellows added a run. Brecht got her chance to score a run as Link hit an RBI single to center field. Springer hit her first RBI of the game in the fifth inning as Sydney Illg added the sixth and final run for the Orange & Black.
 
Ashley Nelson recorded only the second complete game for the Orange & Black at the pitching position. Nelson recorded two hits, two walks, and one strikeout.
 
The Knights return to action taking on Calvin University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on March 4.
 
Series History
 
The Knights take on the Knights of Calvin for the second meeting (Knights won the first meeting). RPI and Wartburg meet for the second time, having previously met in 2018.
