Lacrosse Falls 17-4 to Lake Forest; Solheim Earns MWLC Honor

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Wartburg lacrosse fell to Lake Forest College 17-4 on the road Monday, Apr. 18. The Orange & Black are now 3-9 overall and fall to 1-1 in Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference play.
 
Game Summary
The first quarter got underway with a Britta Solheim shot that was saved and then just a minute and 20 seconds into the period Lake Forest struck first with a goal. The Knights answered moments later when Beka Gershenoff scored her fourth goal of the season to tie the game at one. The Foresters went on a 4-0 run to take a 5-1 lead with 50 seconds left in the quarter. Lindsay Langford scored just before the first ended to make the score 5-2.
 
Lake Forest began the second period with three unanswered goals before Bri Greiskalns scored with just over five and a half minutes to play in the half. Neither team was able to find the net the rest of the half and the score was 8-3 Foresters at halftime.
 
It was all Foresters in the third as they came out and scored five goals while allowing none in the quarter. They continued the run in the fourth quarter, scoring three more goals for its eighth unanswered. Greiskalns stopped the run with her second goal of the contest to make the score 16-4 and Lake Forest score one more time to make it a 17-4 final.
 
Game Leaders
Greiskalns scored two of the Orange & Black's four goals today and led the team with seven draw controls. The fifth-year senior collected one ground ball and caused one turnover in the loss. Greiskalns now has 38 goals and 47 total points this season. 
 
Three Knights tied for a team high in ground balls with Kirsten Mahoney, Mallory Thys and Alyson Hasner all picking up two. Mahoney also led the team with two caused turnovers out of the team's six.
 
Hasner started in goal and recorded a career-high 18 saves in the loss. The performance was two shy of the program record of 20.
 
Weekly Honors
The Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference named Solheim the Co-Offensive Player of Week earlier today along with Jenna Doctor from Lake Forest.
 
Solheim helped lead the Knights offense in their conference opener with five goals and one assist in the 21-7 victory over Augsburg University. The sophomore now has 15 goals and four assists this season through just nine games played.
 
Solheim also picked up six ground balls and caused one of the team's seven caused turnovers in the win.
 
The attacker's five goals against Augsburg marked her first career hat trick. The Orange & Black had five athletes finish with a hat trick in their last contest. Before her five-goal performance, Solheim has scored two goals in each of the previous four games.
 
Next Time Out
The Knights will continue MWLC play on the road Saturday, Apr. 23 at 4 p.m. against the University of Northwestern (Minn.).
