WAVERLY, Iowa—For the first time since 2008, the Wartburg Knights Softball squad swept Luther College Norse in a two-game series.
 
The Knights posted a 3-2 victory in game one before winning game two in extra innings, 6-5.
 
Game One Recap 
 
Sydney Illg answered the Norse home run in the first inning, hitting her fifth of the season. The Knights and Norse would remain tied at one as the Norse's Sydney Schultz hit the second home run of the day for the Norse. Schultz had two of the five hits for the Norse and the only two runs.
 
The Knights pitching held the Norse to a single hit in the final innings.
Olivia Brecht led the sixth inning off for the Knights, doubling to left field to reach base. 
Ella Link mirrored Brecht for an RBI double as Brecht scored the tying run. 
Lauren Frerichs repeated her teammates hits, doubling to right center as Link scored the game-winning run for the Orange & Black.
 
The Knights had six hits off 23 at bats. The Knights recorded three stolen bases, three walks, and three doubles in the game. 
Ashley Nelson recorded a complete game, allowing two runs on five hits.
 
Game Two Recap
 
The Knights held the Norse without a hit in the first inning. Illg put the Knights up by one on Brecht's single to left field.
 
The Norse took the lead in the top of the second before 
Reegan Deputy tied the game at two.
 
Jenna Levine and 
Tarah Wehde recorded hits for the Knights in the third before being left on base. The Norse took the lead in the fourth inning, hitting a three-run home run for a 5-2 lead over the Knights.
 
Illg hit her sixth home run of the season (second of the day) in the fourth as the Knights recorded two hits in the fourth. Deputy scored on Illg's sac fly to left field, bringing the Knights within one in the sixth.
 
After scoring the fifth and tying run of the game, Frerichs doubled to left center field for the walk-off win as 
Kaylie Springer scored the winning run for the Knights.
 
The Knights were credited with 14 hits in the contest on 35 at bats. The Knights recorded one home run, two doubles, four walks, and three stolen bases in the game. Taking over pitching duties for six innings, 
Lauren Reicks allowed three runs off five hits and had three strikeouts.
 
Moving in the Record Book 
 
With her 24 runs scored this season, Illg has moved to No. 4 in the record book for career runs. Illg is 16 runs away from tying the record and needs 18 runs to pass Ashley Rogers (143 runs).
 
Illg, who has recorded two triples this season, is three away from cracking the Top-10 in the career record. Illg leads the record book for most hit-by-pitch has added to her record (34) as Frerichs is tied for fifth with eleven HBP.

The Knights return to action as they hit the road to take on the Coe College Kohawks. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
