WAVERLY, Iowa – Wartburg men's basketball defeated Loras College 93-78 on Wednesday, Jan. 18 for back-to-back conference wins. The Knights are now 4-4 in American Rivers Conference play this season and 7-10 overall.


 
Game Summary

• First Half
  • Keagan John and Jack Molstead got on the board first to put Wartburg up 4-0 for the first two minutes of the game
  • With Wartburg leading 6-5, Molstead made a jumper and then Hicks scored six straight points for the Knights to push the lead to 14-7 early
  • A Drew Olson jumper made the score 16-9 before the Duhawks scored four staght to cut the lead down to three with 13 minutes left in the half
  • After a Wartburg timeout the Knights led by one, before four straight possessions with a made three that took the lead to 33-22 with 6 minutes left in the half
    • Richie Rosenblum hit back-to-back from deep and then it was Cade Daugherty as well as Marshun Williams with the next three pointers
  • Loras went 1/2 at the free throw line late in the half to cut the lead to 10, but the Knights closed the half on a 9-2 run to take a 45-28 lead into the break
• Second Half
  • An Olson three ball put the Knights lead at 21 with 18:10 left to play
  • Loras kept chipping away at the lead and trailed 11 with 13 minutes left
  • A three poiner put the Duhawks down nine, but free throws from Olson and Codey Hicks kept the Knights in front by double digits.
  • The closest the game got in the second quarter was eight points with just under eight minutes to play
  • The Knights kept scoring to hold on to a 10+ point lea throughout the second half
  • The lead got back up to 21 for Wartburg after a Trent Allard layup
  • Loras scored the final five points to make the final score 93-78 Wartburg
