UNW Defeats Wartburg 89-76 After Strong Second Half

WAVERLY, Iowa – Wartburg men's basketball (0-3) opened Buzz Levick Tournament play with a 89-76 loss to the University of Northwestern-St. Paul (4-0) at home on Friday, Nov. 17. Richie Rosenblum led all scorers in the contest with a career-high 29 points, including 19 second-half points.
 
Game Summary
  • First Half
    • Trent Allard and Luke Ladwig got the scoring started for the Knights with an early layup each, but Wartburg trailed 7-4 over four minutes into the contest
    • Trailing 10-4, Rosenblum connected from three-point range on back-to-back possessions to knot the game at 10
    • The lead switched five times over the next couple of minutes, with Wartburg coming out with a 19-18 lead with 8:09 left in the half
    • Marshun Williams and Lagwig both scored the keep the Knights in front, but a three pointer from Japheth Nyamari put UNW ahead 31-28 with under three minutes left in the half
    • Rosenblum went made two free throws to cut the lead to 31-30 with UNW leading at halftime
  • Second Half
    • The Knights regained the lead early in the second when Williams made a layup and Jalen Miller connected on a three pointer
    • The Eagles answered immediately with a three of their own and held Wartburg at a 2-6 point deficit over the next four minutes
    • UNW could not miss in the second half and stretched its lead to as many as 13 points with 8:03 remaining
    • The Eagles continued to stay hot from the field and led 82-63 with under four minutes to play
    • Rosenblum led the Knights offense in the second half as he drew 14 free throw attempts, where he went 12/14
    • Late three's from Carter Cuvelier and Ladwig cut the deficit to 13 and the final score was 89-76
