Men's Basketball Win Fifth-Straight Game After Defeating Luther 66-50

WAVERLY, Iowa – Wartburg men's basketball moved its winning streak to five games after a 66-50 win over Luther College on Wednesday, Feb. 1. The Knights move to 7-4 in American Rivers Conference play and are now 10-10 overall.
 
Game Summary
  • First Half
    • Wartburg jumped on Luther early with a 10-2 lead three and a half minutes into the game after a Keagan John three pointer, Marshun Williams layup and Drew Olson three-point play
    • The Knights continued the run, scoring the next 10 led by five points from Jack Molstead to take a 20-2 lead with 12:31 left in the half
    • After a Cade Daugherty three pointer made the score 23-4, Luther scored the next six points to make it 23-10 with 8:58 left in the half
    • The only basket scored the rest of the half was a Luther layup that made the score 23-12
      • Both teams finished the last 4:19 seconds without any points
    • Wartburg in front 23-12 at the break
      • Luther was 5/24 from the field and 0/10 from three in the half
  • Second Half
    • After a Luther bucket to start the half, John and Williams both scored to put the Knights up 16
    • Austin Bienemann gave Wartburg its largest lead of the second half after connecting from deep with an assist to John to make it 36-18 with 15:23 remaining in the game
    • Luther was able to get the lead down to 10 with 7:37 to go, but Wartburg again had an answer with a 7-0 run
    • The lead never got back down to 10 after baskets from Molstead and Williams kept Wartburg in control
    • The Knights shot 87.5% from the free throw line in the second half
    • Wartburg closed a 66-50 win at home over Luther
