BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The No. 14 Wartburg softball team split its games Sunday. The Knights won their first game of the day, 8-4 over Mount St. Joseph, and were edged 13-12 to host-Huntingdon.
MSJ highlights
- The Knights jumped to a 2-0 early lead but the Lions added two in the second and two in the third to pull ahead 4-2
- The Orange and Black used a six-run seventh inning to reclaim the lead for good
- Reegan Deputy had a three-run triple and Ella Link had a two-run double in the frame.
- Lauren Frerichs went 3-4 with a run and a two-run single
- Deputy went 2-4 with a run and three RBIs
- Tarah Wehde pitched the complete game and fanned four
- With the win, this was head coach Jamie Mueller's 150th career win.
HU highlights
- The Hawks took the 1-0 lead in their second but Wartburg answered with sixth in the third, which included a two-run single by Fellows.
- Huntingdon tallied five in the bottom of the third and used a seven-run fourth to lead 13-7
- The Knights scored five in their fourth to slice the lead to one
- Unfortunately, the Orange and Black were not able to further rally in the seventh for the split on the day
- Ella Link went 3-4 with two runs and three RBIs
- Sydney Fellows was 2-4, with a run and two RBIs
- Frerichs went 2-3 with a run and one RBI
- Alexis Larson was 1-3 with three RBIs
- Ashley Nelson pitched 6.0 innings and had four Ks
Next games
The Knights will now travel to Florida and return to the field Tuesday against MSOE and Calvin.
