DAVENPORT, Fla. – Wartburg baseball defeated Albion College 4-2 on Tuesday, Feb. 28 after the Knights rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth inning. Wartburg are now winners of back-to-back games and move to 2-3 overall.
Game Summary
- The first hit of the game didn't come until the third inning, but the score remained 0-0 through three innings
- Wartburg's offense came alive in the top of the fifth when Will Armstrong singled and Keaton Gray doubled to put runners in scoring position
- Caleb Andrews grounded out to bring in the first run of the game to make it 1-0 Wartburg
- Knights starting pitcher Joey Ciero allowed one hit through the first five innings
- Albion had runners on second and third before a single brought them both home in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 2-1 Albion
- Cole Wessling and Zach Wesolowski both singled in the next two innings, but Wartburg stranded runners each time
- In the top of the ninth both Wessling and Gray got on base to start the inning and then a Andrews double down the line scored both runs
- Zach Walton singled to score Andrews and the Knights led 4-2 heading to the final frame
- Armstrong closed the game on the mound with two strikeouts to earn the win
