Knights sweep Spartans

DUBUQUE, Iowa—The Wartburg softball team (13-11 overall, 3-1 American Rivers) swept A-R-C opponent, Dubuque (8-18, 2-4) 4-3 and 3-2 Tuesday afternoon
 
Game one
  • Ella Link gave the Knigths the early lead on her RBI double to left field.
  • The Spartans would take the 2-1 lead in the fourth
  • The Orange and Black used a three-run sixth inning to make it 3-2. This included an RBI triple from Lauren Frerichs and a suicide squeeze by Hannah Happ
  • Dubuque hit a leadoff double and scored on the next batter's RBI single to make it 4-3.
  • The next two batters struck out, drew a walk, and flied out to first to end the rally
  • Frerichs went 2-3 with two runs and an RBI
  • Kaylie Springer was 2-4 in the leadoff spot
  • Tarah Wehde fanned six in the outing
Game two
  • Link gave the Orange and Black the early lead again with her solo homer in the second
  • This remained the score until the Spartans plated two in the fifth to reclaim the lead
  • Reegan Deputy scored the go-ahead run in the sixth on Sydney Fellow's RBI single
  • Dubuque was unable to compile a rally as it was retired in order in the bottom of the seventh
  • Deputy went 2-4 win a run scored
  • Hannah Happ extended her hitting streak to six games
  • Wartburg has won three of the last four meetings
Next event
The Knights return to the field Saturday against Coe in a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
