Late Wesolowski HR Leads Wartburg to 5-4 Win Over UD

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Baseball started the weekend series off with a 5-4 win on the road over the University of Dubuque on Saturday, Apr. 22. The win moves the Knights to 10-15 overall and 5-11 in American Rivers Conference play.
 
Game Summary
  • The Knights offense got started in the first inning after Caleb Andrews reached on a fielder's choice and then was brought home from a Zach Walton double to make it 1-0
  • Dubuque scored early as well, with four straight first inning singles that led to an early 2-1 UD lead
  • Wartburg's bats heated up again in the third inning when Andrews tripled to score Keaton Gray and then Zach Wesolowski doubled to score Andrews
    • Wartburg was back on top 3-2 after the top of the third
  • The lead didn't last long, as the Spartans brought two runs across in the bottom half of the third to make the score 4-3 through three innings
  • After a single, Gray stole second in the top of the fifth to move into scoring position before Andrews singled to bring Gray across and tie the game at four
  • Wesolowski broke the tie in the seventh inning with a leadoff solo shot to put Wartburg back on top 5-4
  • Aaron Eybers and Dreyton LaVeine threw the two last innings on the mound and kept Wartburg in front for a 5-4 win
