Wartburg splits with Buena Vista

STORM LAKE, Iowa—The Wartburg softball team (17-15 overall, 7-5 American Rivers) split with Buena Vista (6-26, 2-12) Saturday. The Knights won the opener 11-3 in six innings and BV claimed the finale 7-1.

Game One
  • The Knights plated four in their first at-bats to take the early lead.
  • BV answered with three in the bottom of the frame to slice the margin to one.
  • Solo homers in the second from Sydney Fellows and Ella Link, and an RBI single from Reegan Deputy in the third made it 7-3.
  • This remained the score until the fifth when the Orange and Black tallied four more runs. Deputy hit a two-run double, and Fellows and Lauren Frerichs each had sac flies.
  • Deputy and Kaylie Springer both went 3-4 with two runs
  • Deputy added three RBIs and Spring had one
  • Ashley Nelson earned the win and struck out five
 
Game two
  • BV led 7-0 after the third inning
  • Sydney Illg broke up the no hitter in the second with her single
  • In the seventh, Frerichs had a sac fly to score Deputy for the lone run of the game
 
Next event

Wartburg continues its six-game road trip Wednesday against Simpson at 3 p.m.
