BVU Wins 14-4 in Series Opener

WAVERLY, Iowa – Wartburg baseball was defeated 14-4 in eight innings against Buena Vista University in tonight's American Rivers Conference matchup. The Knights move to 8-10 overall and 3-6 in A-R-C play this season.
 
Game Summary
  • BVU got the top of the first started with three hits and one run after an RBI single
    • Gavin Lund escaped a bases loaded jam to hold the Beavers to just one run
  • The Beavers added three more runs in the second inning, but this time for three runs to take a 4-0 lead
  • Eliot Jurgensen and Carter Stubitz both singled in the bottom of the second, but the Knights were unable to bring any runs across
  • After holding BVU to no runs in the third, Zach Wesolowski hit an RBI single to score Will Armstrong after his leadoff double to make it 4-1
  • The Knights added another run in the bottom of the fourth after Jurgensen got into scoring position with a single and then Armstrong singled to bring another run home.
    • Caleb Andrews hit a two-out RBI single to score another run and Wartburg trailed 4-3 after four innings
  • Through five innings, each team had nine hits and Buena Vista led 4-3
  • Cole Wessling and Keaton Gray both singled in the sixth inning and then Andrews singled up the middle to score Wessling and tie the game at 4-4
  • BVU's offense exploded for eight runs in the top of the seventh to take a commanding 12-4 lead after being held scoreless the previous four innings
  • The Beavers added two more runs in the eighth to go up 14-4 and held off the Knights in the bottom of the eighth to secure a 14-4 win in eight innings
