No. 23 Women's Soccer Fall to Hope College 3-1

WAVERLY, Iowa – No. 23 Wartburg women's soccer fell in its season opener 3-1 to Hope College on Friday, Sept. 1.

Game Summary
  • First Half
    • Hope was on the offensive attack early with two shots on goal in the first 10 minutes
    • Wartburg struck first when Nikayla Youngblut scored on a great strike from outside the box with an assist from Greta Rothe to make it 1-0 in the 20th minute
    • The Flying Dutch tied the match at one when Carly Wagasky scored unassisted with on a deep shot
    • Hope took the lead in the 34th minute when Ainsley Harris scored after assists from Heidi Berkey and Avery Coykendall
    • The Flying Dutch offense kept up the attack as they ended the half with eight shots on goal
    • Hope led 2-1 at halftime
  • Second Half
    • The Flying Dutch added a goal in the 59th minute to make the score 3-1 when Natalie Hammer scored from a Madison Holloway assist
    • Wartburg's offense improved throughout the second half with five total shots (Two on goal)
    • Hope continued to keep an edge in total possession throughout the match
    • The Flying Dutch closed out a 3-1 win
