No. 23 Women's Soccer Win 1-0 Over Illinois Wesleyan

 
WAVERLY, Iowa – No. 23 Wartburg women's soccer (2-2-1) defeated Illinois Wesleyan University (1-3) 1-0 at home on Sunday, Sept. 10.
 
Game Summary
  • First Half
    • Knights defense was strong early, defending a early corner kick as well as Alena Miller making a save in goal
    • Wartburg got a corner kick of its own and Greta Rothe scored a goal with an assist from Meredith Connor to put the Orange and Black up 1-0
    • Rothe had another shot minutes later, but this one was off target and on the other side Miller made another save before halftime
    • Knights led 1-0 at the break
  • Second Half
    • Neither team found a rhythm early in the second half
    • In the 58th minute, Wartburg had another corner opportunity but Lauren Kirkle's shot was saved by IWU
    • Ellianna Trilling came close to adding to the lead, with a shot that hit the crossbar in the 71st minute
    • The Knights controlled the rest of the match and closed out a 1-0 win
