UD Held On for a 2-1 Win Over Wartburg in A-R-C Opener

WAVERLY, Iowa – Women's soccer (2-6-1, 0-1 A-R-C) fell to the University of Dubuque 2-1 (6-2, 1-0 A-R-C) in its American Rivers Conference opener on Saturday, Sept. 23.

  • First Half
    • UD got on the board first in the seventh minute when Emma Kober found Alyssa Tranchita for a score to make it 1-0
    • Kober scored unassisted from deep just minutes later to give the Spartans an early 2-0 lead
    • Alena Miller made back-to-back saves in the 19th and 20th
    • Izzy Sash and Lauren Kirkle both put shots on goal for the Knights, but both were saved
    • Minutes later it was Natalie Thiesfeld who put a shot on goal for the Knights, but Karissa Cruz made another save for UD
    • At halftime, UD led Wartburg 2-0
  • Second Half
    • The Knights got a corner kick opportunity in the 60th minute that Meredith Connor took and put in the back of the net to put Wartburg on the board
      • 2-1 UD
    • Wartburg continued its attack with shots on goal from Greta Rothe and Kirkle that were saved by Cruz
    • Ellianna Trilling and Madison Frush both recorded shots on goal in the 70th and 74th minute, but were also unable to beat the keeper
    • UD was able to hold off the Knights attempts to tie the match and held on for a 2-1 win
