STORM LAKE, Iowa – Men's basketball fell on the road in a back an forth battle against Buena Vista University on Sunday, Jan. 14. The Knights move to 3-13 overall and 2-5 in American Rivers Conference play.
Game Summary
- First Half
- Wartburg jumped out to a 7-0 lead after layups from Trent Allard and Richie Rosenblum followed by a three pointer from Isaac Besh
- Knghts went on another run as buckets from Allard and Marshun Williams, as well as a three from Rosenblum kept the Knights in front 14-6 with 15:30 left in the first
- Besh scored five straight for Wartburg to stretch the lead to 21-10, but back-to-back threes from BVU cut the lead to 21-16 with 12:06 remaining in the half
- Minutes later the Beavers tied the game at 24, but Carter Cuvelier scored five straight points to make the score 29-24
- BVU took a 30-29 lead with just under nine minutes remaining in the first half
- There was six lead changes over the next four minutes and the score was 36-35 BVU in front
- Trailing by four with 1:36 left in the first, a Jalen Miller three cut the lead to one and then a Cuvelier three at the buzzer made the score 43-42 Wartburg
- Second Half
- Williams scored five points in the first two minutes of the second half, but BVU led 49-48
- Allard and Gabe Trujllo both scored to retake the lead and Besh added one point at the free throw line to make the score 53-51 Wartburg with 15:43 left to play
- After a multiple lead changes and ties, the score was 62-62 with just over 10 minutes left to play
- With the game tied 67-67, BVU's Zane Neubaum made five straight free throws to make the score 72-67 BVU
- Wartburg answered with a three from Yungtum with 6:38 to play
- BVU stretched the lead to 77-71, but the Knights responded with five quick points from Cuvelier and Trujillo to make the score 79-76 with just under three minutes to play
- The Knights were unable to retake the lead and BVU closed out a 91-82 win
