Waomen's Soccer and Central Battle to a 1-1 Draw

WAVERLY, Iowa – Women's soccer battled Central College to a 1-1 draw in an American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) matchup on Saturday, Oct. 19. The Knights are now 4-1-1 in A-R-C play and 8-5-3 overall, while Central is now 8-5-2 overall and 1-2-2 in A-R-C play.
 
Match Summary
  • First Half
    • Each team recorded one off-target shot in the first five minutes of play before Central recorded the first shot on goal of the match in the 6th minute
    • Wartburg responded quicky with a shot on goal of its own in the eighth minute from Nikayla Youngblut
    • Central had five corner kick opportunities over the next 15 minutes and Wartburg did not allow any shots on goal
    • Wartburg had opportunities of its own late in the second half when Skyler Oldenburg and Paige Lienhard both had shots saved by Central
      • Lauren Kirkle fired a shot that connected with the crossbar and was deflected away in the final minutes of the half to keep it 0-0 at half
  • Second Half
    • The Knights struck early into the second half when Sami Webster beat the keeper after a pass from Kirkle to make it 1-0 Wartburg in the 47th minute
    • Wartburg tried to extend the lead in the 70th minute when both Webster and Kirkle had shots saved to keep the score 1-0
    • In the 74th minute, Central's Grace Coates fired a shot on goal that was saved by Ceschan, but it was deflected right to Central's Piper Eighmy for a wide open goal that tied the match at one apiece
    • Webster and Youngblut both had shot opportunities late, but were unable to find a score
      • Wartburg held off a late Central shot on goal to keep the match at 1-1 after 90 minutes
