WAVERLY, Iowa – Men's bowling will open the 2024-25 season on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Midwest Collegiate Championships in Wauwatosa, Wis. The competition is a tier-one tournament and will conclude Sunday, Oct. 6.
The Knights will have some key returners this season in both
Jace Goedel and
Dylan Obowa. Goedel was last season's Mid Iowa Bowling Conference (MIBC) Bowler of the Year as well as first team All-Conference alongside Obowa.
Tyler Reeves and
Joe Skinner are the other returning members from last-year's team.
Wartburg will welcome four newcomers in
Bryce Bergman,
Simon Larsen,
Ryland Prokopec and
Louis Shontz.
"The vibe so far this season for both teams has been a more competitive edge," said second-year head coach Alexis Runk. "One team goal the men had was to finish in the top 10 as a team at a tier-one event as well as some individual goals like Jace repeating as bowler of the year and several other hoping to be first team All-Conference. I think our team is more than capable to accomplish these goals."
The Knights will also continue to compete in the Mid Iowa Bowling Conference (MIBC) in its second season. "The conference has been a huge benefit for us," said Runk. "It gives us three tier-two events right here in Iowa and it provides more of an intimate setting for competition compared to our usual bigger events. It's also been great to be able to see the same teams we see at other competitions and be able to build off that to compete towards a conference championship."
Wartburg's schedule is highlighted by a trip to Las Vegas, Nev. for two tier-one tournaments within one week (12/18-12/21). "The athletes love those tournaments," said Runk. "It's an amazing opportunity to have two tier-one tournaments back-to-back in the same location."
