Men's Soccer Blank Coe 2-0 on the Road

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Men's soccer went on the road and defeated Coe College 2-0 in an American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) matchup on Saturday, Oct. 5. The win moves Wartburg to 4-3-3 overall and 1-1 in A-R-C play, while Coe is now 4-6-1 overall and 0-1 in A-R-C play.
 
Match Summary
  • First Half
    • Coe got an early shot on goal in the second minute that was saved by Henry Eckert
    • The Knights got on the board in the ninth minute after a corner kick from Flori Gembo was headed in by Carson Kay for the first goal of match
    • Just five minutes later Aidan Mott beat his defender and was fouled in the box for a Wartburg penalty kick
      • Curtis Ratzer fired the penalty past Coe's keeper into the bottom left corner of the net to make it 2-0 Wartburg 13 minutes into the match
    • The Knights had three more corner kick opportunities in the first half but were unable to generate any shots
    • Coe fired an off-target shot late in the half and the score remained 2-0, Wartburg, headed into halftime
  • Second Half

    • Coe responded a minute later when a deflected shot led to a Coe corner kick

    • Alima Mmunga recorded the last shot of the match with a shot on goal in the 77th minute
      • Wartburg closed out a 2-0 conference win
