Men's Soccer Shutout Nebraska Wesleyan 3-0 at Home

WAVERLY, Iowa – Men's soccer won 3-0 at home over Nebraska Wesleyan University in an American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 9. The win moves Wartburg's overall record to 5-3-3 and 2-1 in A-R-C play.

  • First Half
    • Following an early corner kick, both Aidan Mott and Sam McDevitt had shot opportunities that were saved by Nebraska Wesleyan
    • Henry Eckert made his first save of the match in the eighth minute for the Knights
    • Wartburg put three more shots on goal on the board after Alima Mmunga, Landon Hartsell and Lwings Kabula all had shots saved between the 10th and 16th minute
    • The Knights' offensive pressure resulted in a score in the 37th minute when Itsuki Ebisawa found Tyler Howe on a cross for a tap-in score to make it 1-0 Wartburg
      • The score remained 1-0 at the break
  • Second Half
    • Flori Gembo kept the pressure on the NWU defense early in the second half as he recorded three shots, including two on goal
    • Wartburg added to its lead when Andrew Valenzuela delivered a pass to Hunter Yeatts that he was able to fire past the keeper to make the score 2-0 in the 65th minute
    • Minutes later, Howe scored his second goal of the Knight after finishing a pass from Sabin Bolin in the 68th minute
    • Wendy and Mmunga both tried to extend the lead to 4-0, but both shots were saved
      • Wartburg closed out a 3-0 home victory
