Rothe's Late Goal Lifts Knights Past Nebraska Wesleyan 1-0

WAVERLY, Iowa – Women's soccer won 1-0 at home in an American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) matchup over Nebraska Wesleyan University on Wednesday, Oct. 9 after a clutch goal in the 88th minute from Greta Rothe assisted by Natalie Thiesfeld. The Knights are now 3-0 in A-R-C play and 7-4-2 overall, while NWU moves to 5-7-1 overall and 0-2-1 in A-R-C play.

  • First Half
    • Sami Webster recorded the first shot of the match with a deep shot on goal that was saved by NWU
    • Wartburg generated corner kick opportunities in the 9th and 14th minutes, but were unable to record any shots
    • A Lauren Kirkle shot just missed in the 23rd minute after it deflected off the crossbar and went out of play
    • Claudia Sewell had a shot miss the target just to the right and then Kirkle's shot deflected off the right crossbar shortly after to keep the match scoreless

    • Tulla Jensen made her first save of the night in the 85th minute to keep the match scoreless
    • Wartburg cashed in on its offensive pressure when Natalie Thiesfeld drove deep into the NWU defense and fired a shot that was saved and deflected over to Rothe for a finish from the left side
      • Rothe's goal put Wartburg ahead in the 88th minute and the Knights held on to win 1-0
