ST. PAUL—The Wartburg men's basketball team opened the season with a 69-67 win over Macalester Saturday afternoon. The Scots attempted two three-pointers in the last nine seconds of the game but missed both to give the win to the Knights.

First half

• Wartburg opened the game on an 8-6 run over the first four minutes.
• The Scots came within one point twice over the next six minutes until the Knights began to build their lead on a layup by Gabe Trujillo and a three from Isaac Besh
• The Orange and Black took the 39-23 lead into halftime

Second half

• Macalester battled back and whittled the margin to one (66-65) with 1:14 to play
• Williams made a layup with 0:43 to go and the Scots responded with a jumper to make it 68-67 with 0:32 to play
• Luke Ladwig was fouled with 0:30 to go (69-67) and made one of his free throws to give the Scots the ball with
• Macalester missed both three-point attempts to seal the win for the Knights
