Men's Basketball Falls to Loras 79-72 in a Tight A-R-C Matchup

WAVERLY, Iowa – Men's basketball (6-2, 1-1 A-R-C) suffered its first American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) loss of the season after a 79-72 battle against Loras College (5-1, 2-0 A-R-C) on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
 
Game Summary
  • First Half
    • The Knights came out firing and jumped to a 10-5 lead three minutes into the game after two three pointers from Isaac Besh and four points from Gabe Trujillo
    • Luke Ladwig got to the hoop and converted a three-point play before back-to-back three balls from Richie Rosenblum and Marshun Williams made the score 19-13 with 14:31 left in the half
    • Scores from Williams and Besh kept the Wartburg lead at eight points, but 8:04 left in the half the Duhawks were able to cut the lead to just one point
      • The Knights responded with an 8-0 run capped off by another Rosenblum three pointer
    • The Duhawks got the lead down to five points with under a minute remaining in the half, but Williams ended the half with two made free throws and then a near full court heave as the buzzer sounded to give Wartburg a 41-31 lead at the break
  • Second Half
    • Williams continued to have the hot hand as he scored the first four Wartburg points of the half before Lyle Olsen drained a three pointer to give Wartburg a 13-point lead with 16:17 left to play
    • Loras answered with a 9-2 run to cut Wartburg's lead to 50-44 with just under 13 minutes left in the game
    • A Besh three pointer stopped the run and Ethan Yungtum added a score in the paint, but Loras kept inching its way back and trailed 55-50 halfway through the second half
    • A 10-4 run gave Loras its first lead of the game with 6:14 to play, but free throws from Besh and Williams tied it up at 62
    • Loras went on a 12-3 run to take a 74-65 lead over the Knights with under two minutes to play
      • Rosenblum scored five points in the final minute and a half of play, but Loras held off Wartburg 79-72
