WAVERLY, Iowa – Men's basketball fell to Buena Vista University 81-72 in the final home game of the 2023-24 regular season. The Knights were led by 17 point scoring performances from
Carter Cuvelier and
Luke Ladwig, but fall to 3-21 overall and 2-13 in American Rivers Conference play.

- First Half
- Luke Ladwig got the Knights on the board first with a layup and then an Isaac Besh three ball with the foul tied the game at five just over
- Minutes later, Carter Cuvelier connected from deep on back-to-back possessions to tie the game at 11-11 with 14:19 remaining in the first
- Cuvelier continued to score for the Knights as he went 4/4 from the free throw line over the next two minutes to tie the game once again, this time at 17
- BVU went on a 5-0 run before Marshun Williams scored two at the free throw line an Gabe Trujillo scored in the paint to cut the lead to one with 8:10 left in the first
- Drake Wemark and Trent Allard both scored to cut into the BVU lead, but it was still 30-25 with over five minutes to play in the first
- The lead grew to as many as 10, but the Knights closed the half on an 8-4 run to cut the BVU lead to 39-33 at halftime
- Second Half
- After an early two points from BVU, Wartburg went on a 12-4 run to tie the game at 45 just under four minutes into the second half
- Ladwig scored six of the Knights 12 points in the run
- The Beavers responded with a 7-0 run to take a 52-45 lead before Ethan Yungtum found an open Richie Rosenblum for three to stop the run
- Cuvelier went 1/2 from the line and then a Trujillo steal led to a dunk that made the score 54-51, BVU, with just over 10 minutes remaining in the game
- A Trujillo three pointer put Wartburg ahead 57-56 one minute later, but BVU answered right away to regain the lead
- Williams found Garrett Hempen for three, but BVU answered again, this time with a 7-2 run to go ahead 65-62
- Ladwig cut the lead to one point with over six minutes to play, but a BVU four-point play kept the Beavers in control
- Ladwig found Williams for an open three and scored four points over the next two minutes to make it 74-71 with 4:22 to play
- The lead never got below three as the Beavers held on for an 81-72 win over the Knights
