Softball goes undefeated Sunday

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY.—The Wartburg softball team (6-7 overall) went undefeated Sunday to conclude the Pioneer Classic. The Knights defeated Adrian 6-2 and Defiance 3-2.

Adrian
  • Second inning
    • The game was scoreless until the bottom of the second when the Orange and Black plated three. Tarah Wehde scored on a bases loaded walk and then Kaylie Springer drove in Reagan Deputy on her single and Reegan Hassel scored on an error on the same play.
  • Fourth
    • The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard with one run.
  • Fifth
    • Wartburg plated three more in this frame, thanks in part to a two-run single from Hassel through the left side.
  • Seventh
    • Adrian scored its final run on an RBI groundout.
Top performers Defiance
  • First
    • The Orange and Black took the early 1-0 lead as Springer scored on an error.
  • Second
    • Wartburg doubled its lead on an RBI single from Sydney Fellows through the left side.
    • The YellowJackets sliced the margin to one in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double to left center.
  • Third
    • Defiance knotted the game on an RBI single to centerfield.
  • Fourth
    • In the next at-bats, the Knights scored the go-ahead run as Ella Link drove in Springer on her RBI single.
    • The Yellow Jackets were retired in order the next three innings.
  • Seventh
    • In the bottom of the frame, Defiance had a runner on first with one out. The next batter hit into a fielder's choice to retire the lead baserunner, and the next batter struck out to seal the win for the Knights.
