Wartburg moves winning streak to five

ST. LOUIS—The Wartburg softball team (8-7 overall) won both games Saturday at WashU's Tournament. The Knights defeated the host-Bears 4-0 and won 10-1 in five innings over Spalding to move their overall winning streak to five.

Third inning
  • The game was scoreless until Reagan Hassel stole home for the early lead
Fourth 
  • Ella Link drove in Lili Alvarado on her single down the left line
    • Link scored as the next batter, Tarah Wehde, hit a double down the left field line to make it 3-0
    • The Bears had their first baserunner advance past first with a  leadoff single, moved to second on third on sequential groundouts, but was left stranded on third on a third-straight groundout
Fifth
  • WashU looked to threaten again with runners on second and third with one out. The next two batters popped out to end the threat
Sixth 
  • Hassel drove in the final run on her single up the middle
Top performers
  • This was the first win over WashU since 2021
  • Alvarado was 2-4 with one run
  • Hannah Luellen went the distance in the circle

First inning
  • The Knights took the early 4-0 lead, thanks in part to a three-run triple by Wehde
Second inning
  • Wartburg added to its margin with five in this frame, which included consecutive RBI singles from Springer, and Alvarado.
  • Link drove in Alvarado and then two batters later, Jenna Wiebenga hit a two-run single through the left side to plate Fellows and Link to make it 9-0.
Third
  • The Golden Eagles got on the scoreboard with an RBI double
  • Alvarado drove in Springer on her single to second for the final run for the Orange and Black.
Fifth
  • Spalding was unable to advance its baserunner past second to seal the win for Wartburg
Top performers
  • Springer was 3-3, with three runs and three stolen bases
  • Alvarado was 2-2 with one run, two RBIs
  • Fellows was 2-2, two runs, and two stolen bases
