Late Goal from Maya Anderson Leads Knights to 1-1 Draw

WAVERLY, Iowa – Women's soccer tied with the College of Saint Benedict 1-1 on Saturday, Sept. 14 after a late goal from Maya Anderson forced a draw. The Knights are now 2-3-1 overall, while the Bennies move to 3-1-1.
 
Match Summary
  • First Half
    • The first shot on goal of the match came in the 18th minute when CSB fired a shot at Mackenzie Ceschan that was saved
    • Minutes later following a CSB corner kick, the Knights recorded its first shot on goal when put a shot on target low and away that was saved by the Bennies
    • The Knights continued to play strong defense and the score remained 0-0 with 10 minutes left in the half
    • Ceschan made two more saves in the closing 10 minutes and Izzy Sash had a shot on goal for the Knights that was saved to make the halftime score 0-0
  • Second Half
    • CSB broke the tie early into the second half when Alli Voss found for a score to make it 1-0 after 47 minutes played
    • The Knights had a corner kick in the 59th minute that led to two shots from Nikayla Youngblut but neither found the mark
    • Wartburg continued to attack off of corner kicks as Natalie Thiesfeld missed a shot just high in the 63rd minute
    • The Knights continued to put pressure on CSB throughout the rest of the match offensively and defensively
      • Wartburg broke through in the 85th minute when Lauren Kirkle sent a corner kick in to Maya Anderson, who beat the keeper to tie the match up for a 1-1 final score
