Knights Defeat UW-Stevens Point 2-1 at Home

WAVERLY, Iowa – Women's soccer tallied a home win on Sunday, Sept. 22 with a 2-1 win over the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The Knights are now 3-4-1 overall this season and the Pointers move to 3-4-2 overall.
 
Match Summary
  • First Half
    • The Pointers had an early shot on goal in the fourth minute that was saved by Tulla Jensen
    • Jensen made another save minutes later before Greta Rothe fired a shot past the UW-Stevens Point keeper for the first goal of the match
    • Rothe and Natalie Thiesfeld both had a shot on goal in the 14th minute that was saved by the Pointers
    • The Knights had multiple corner kick opportunities in the first half as well as two more shots on goal from Abigail Milburn and Maya Anderson
    • Wartburg led 1-0 at the break
  • Second Half
    • The Pointers offense had three early shots with one being on goal in the first minutes of the second half
    • Wartburg added to its lead in the 67th minute when Claudia Sewell drove deep into opposing territory and made a great pass to Millburn, who finished for the score
    • UW-Stevens Point responded in the 71st minute with a goal of its own to cut the Wartburg lead to 2-1
    • Jensen made another save in the 76th minute and the Knights defense held off the Pointers for a 2-1 home win
