Men's Soccer Fall to Dubuque 2-1 on the Road

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Men's soccer was defeated 2-1 by the University of Dubuque on the road on Saturday, Sept. 28 to open American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play. The Knights are now 3-3-3 overall and 0-1 in A-R-C play while UD moves to 4-4-1 overall and 1-0 in A-R-C play.
 
Match Summary
  • First Half
    • Alima Mmunga had two early shots with the second being on target and saved by UD in the fifth minute
    • Henry Eckert made his first save of the afternoon in the 10th minute
    • The Spartans struck first on the scoreboard in the 25th minute when Gavin Wooldridge found Mario Meier for a score
    • The Knights were able to answer and tie the match when Itsuki Ebisawa beat the defense and the goalkeeper in the 37th minute to make it 1-1
    • Hunter Yeatts fired a shot late in the half that hit off the crossbar and eventually went out of play so the score remained 1-1 at the break
  • Second Half
    • The Knights had an early corner kick opportunity that created a shot for Carson Kay that was just off target
      • Minutes later Wartburg had another corner kick that led to a shot from Aidan Mott
    • In the 59th minute, Dubuque was able to find the back of the net again to make the score 2-1 UD
    • Mott had a shot on goal saved by the Spartans' keeper in the 66th minute
    • Kaleab Wendy had a shot in the final minute that deflected off of the crossbar and was kicked out of the box to end the match 2-1
