Knights Defeat Illinois Wesleyan 2-0

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Women's soccer secured its first win of the season today with a neutral site win over Illinois Wesleyan 2-0 on Saturday, Sept. 7. The Knights are now 1-2 overall and Illinois Wesleyan falls to 0-3.
 
Match Summary
  • First Half
    • Natalie Thiesfeld had the first shot of the match in the second minute but it was saved by Illinois Wesleyan
    • In the 14th minute, Nikayla Youngblut hit Sami Webster with a pass that Webster finished for the first score of the match
      • Knights led 1-0
    • IWU tired to answer in the 15th minute, but the on-target attempt was saved by Mackenzie Ceschan
    • Ceschan made another save in the 23rd minute and then minutes later Lauren Kirkle was able to fire a shot on goal that was also saved
    • Claudia Sewell, Maddy Badding and Ellianna Trilling all had shots on goal saved in the final minutes of the first half and it was 1-0 Wartburg at half
  • Second Half
    • Ceschan made two early saves for the Knights to begin the second half
    • The Knights added another goal in the 69th minute after a Kirkle shot was deflected to Natalie Thiesfeld, who beat the keeper with her shot to make it 2-0
    • Wartburg had a corner kick late that led to a shot on goal from Skyler Oldenburg but it was saved by Illinois Wesleyan
    • Ceschan made another save in the 89th minute to closeout a 2-0 win
