UW-Platteville Wins Defensive Battle 1-0 Over Men's Soccer

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Men's soccer closed out nonconference play with a 1-0 loss on the road to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Wednesday, Oct. 1. Wartburg is now 3-5-1 overall and 1-0 in American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play, while UW-Platteville is now 5-2-2 overall.
 
Match Summary
  • First Half
    • Both Alima Mmunga and Carson Kay recorded off-target shots within the first five minutes of play
    • The Pioneers were first on the scoreboard with a goal in the seventh minute to make it 1-0 early
    • Following the goal, both Lwings Kabula and Landon Hartsell fired shots on goal that were both saved
    • Caleb Cross made two saved over the next 15 minutes for the Knights to keep the deficit at 1-0
    • In the 41st minute, Mason Yeatts created space and fired a shot on goal that was saved and then a minute later UW-Platteville fired a shot on goal that was saved by Cross
      • UW-Platteville led 1-0 heading into halftime
  • Second Half
    • Cross made two more saves for the Knights in the 58th minute to keep the match at 1-0
    • Outside of an off-target shot from Aidan Mott, neither team recorded a shot in the next 10 minutes as both defenses made possession hard to control
    • Neither side was able to record a shot on goal the rest of the match as both defenses held strong
      • The Pioneers held off Wartburg for a 1-0 win
