Nebraska Wesleyan Held off a Late Push from Women's Soccer to Force a 1-1 Draw

LINCOLN, Neb. – Women's soccer had its first draw of the season with a 1-1 result against Nebraska Wesleyan University on the road Tuesday, Oct. 14.
 
Wartburg is now 6-7-1 overall and 2-1-1 in American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play and NWU moves to 2-5-5 overall and 0-2-2 in A-R-C play.
 
Match Summary
  • First Half
    • The Prairie Wolves had two early shot attempts in the third and 10th minutes, but neither were on goal as the Knights kept NWU off the scoreboard
    • Wartburg responded in the 22nd and 23rd minutes with shots from both Nikayla Youngblut and Sami Webster, but neither found the target
    • Athena Sheets recorded the first shot on goal of the match in the 25th minute, but the Prairie Wolves made the save to keep the match scoreless
    • Tulla Jensen made her first save of the match in the 36th minute after a high shot from NWU
    • Following back-to-back corner kicks, Webster had a shot on goal and a shot blocked in the final minutes of the half and the score remained 0-0
  • Second Half
    • Neither team had offensive success early into the second half until Sami Webster broke the tie in the 51st minute when she beat the defense and fired a strike past the keeper high into the right side of the goal to give Wartburg a 1-0 lead
      • Youngblut almost added another goal a minute later, but NWU made the save
    • Jensen added another save to her total in the 57th minute when NWU fired a shot on goal
    • The Prairie Wolves were able to tie the match in the 71st minute when Lexi Jantzen found Mady Schoffstall for the equalizer
    • Wartburg had three scoring chances late when Youngblut had a shot saved in the 80th minute, Webster had a shot saved in the 86th minute and Sheets had a last chance shot in the 90th saved
      • NWU held off the Knights for a 1-1 draw
