FOREST CITY, Iowa -- The Wartburg College women's wrestling team (1-0 overall) turned in a strong performance at the Waldorf University Open on Saturday, highlighted by a first-place finish from
Kaydn Meyer in the 131-pound Frosh/Soph division and multiple top-three finishes across several weight classes.
Meyer dominated her bracket en route to a first-place finish, earning wins by decision, fall, and tech fall before pinning Iowa Central's Annabelle Petsinger in the championship round.
In the open division,
Aubrie Pehrson and
Sophie Bowers both placed third in their respective weight classes. Pehrson went 5-1 on the day at 138 pounds, earning four falls and a tech fall victory, while Bowers claimed third at 131 pounds with three tech falls and a pair of decision wins.
May Prado joined the podium at 160 pounds with a third-place finish, collecting five wins, including two falls and two decision victories.
Also finishing in the top six were
Ava Gardner (4th, 110 lbs),
Cailyn Whittier (6th, 131 lbs),
Hope Chiattello (6th, 117 lbs),
Rachel Fode (6th, 138 lbs), and
Izzy Strickert (6th, 180 lbs).
In the Frosh/Soph divisions,
Julie Maylum placed fourth at 160 pounds, while
Braya Cruz added two wins at 131 pounds to round out Wartburg's underclassman competitors.
