Knights Dominate in Doubleheader Sweep Over Simpson

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Baseball clinched a regular season series win over Simpson with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday, Mar. 22 after winning 17-9 and 9-1. Wartburg is now 8-6 overall and 2-1 in American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play while Simpson moves to 6-10 overall and 1-2 in A-R-C play.
 
Game Summary
  • Game One
    • First Inning
      • Simpson got on the board early with a two-run home run to right field
    • Fourth Inning
      • Wartburg got on the board in the fourth inning when Carter Stubitz hit a three-run home run that scored both Zach Walton and Eliot Jurgensen to make the score 3-2
      • Simpson answered in the bottom half of the inning with back-to-back extra-base hits that put the Storm in front 4-3
    • Sixth Inning
      • Simpson added one more run in the sixth after a double scored one run
    • Eighth Inning
      • After back-to-back walks, Stubitz delivered again for the Knights with his second three-run shot of the game to put Wartburg in front 6-5 after the top of the eighth

      • After Will Armstrong reached second base after an error to leadoff the game, Eliot Jurgensen singled up the middle to bring Armstrong home and put the Knights ahead 1-0 early
    • Second Inning
      • Cole Grider singled and then stole second base to set up an RBI single from Armstrong to push Wartburg's lead to 2-0
    • Third Inning
      • The Knights continued its scoring when Walton hit a solo home run to make it 3-0
    • Fifth Inning
      • Keegan Schmitt and Krueger both singled to bring in a combined three runs to give Wartburg a 6-0 lead
    • Seventh Inning
      • Troha drove in Stubitz with a single to make the score 7-0 and later in the inning Devin Jager stole home to add another run

      • Stubitz drove in another RBI with a single that brought home Walton to push the lead to 9-0
