Buena Vista Holds Off a Late Wartburg Push 6-4

STORM LAKE, Iowa – Baseball was unable to complete a comeback victory over Buena Vista University on Tuesday, Mar. 25 with the Beavers holding on for a 6-4 wn. The Knights are now 8-7 overall and 2-2 in American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play while BVU is now 12-4 overall and 4-0 in A-R-C play.
 
Game Summary
  • Third Inning
    • Will Armstrong recorded the first hit of the game for Wartburg with a single and then stole second base, but was unable to score as the score remained 0-0 headed to the bottom of the third
      • Cael Funk kept the game scoreless in the bottom half despite a BVU runner making it to third base
  • Fourth Inning
    • Carter Stubitz and Gehrig Turner both got on base to begin the fourth inning and then a Cole Grider walk loaded up the bases with one out
      • Caleb Andrews hit a sacrifice fly to score Stubitz for the first score of the game to put Wartburg up 1-0 after the top of the fourth
    • BVU answered in the bottom half with a two-RBI double to give the Beavers the lead
      • A two-out RBI single scored another run for Buena Vista to make the score 3-1 after four innings of play
  • Sixth Inning
    • BVU had two runs walked in during the bottom of the sixth to push the lead to 5-1 after six innings played
  • Seventh Inning
    • The Knights loaded the bases to begin the seventh inning and then brought one run in when Turner grounded out
      • Keegan Schmitt took home after a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 5-3 headed to the bottom of the seventh inning
  • Eighth Inning
    • The Knights once again loaded the bases after three consecutive walks by BVU and brought one run across after a wild pitch allowed Andrews to score and make it 5-4
    • The Beavers got the run back with an RBI single in the bottom half of the eighth to take a 6-4 lead heading into the ninth
  • Ninth Inning
    • BVU held off Wartburg to clinch a 6-4 win at home in A-R-C play
