Knights sweep Eagles in walkoff fashion

WAVERLY, Iowa—The Wartburg softball team (8-8 overall) swept UW-La Crosse (13-9) Thursday afternoon. The Knights won the opener 3-2 in nine innings and won the finale, also by a 3-2 score.

Game One highlights
  • The Orange and Black got out of a jam in the first as UWL stranded the bases loaded
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Sydney Fellows broke up the no-hitter with her single to left centerfield
  • In the top of the seventh, the Eagles had a solo home run to take the 1-0 lead
  • Wartburg responded as Carley Bredar sacrificed in Addy Wells to knot the game
  • In the top of the ninth, UW-La Crosse hits an RBI double to reclaim the 2-1 lead
  • In their last at-bats, the Knights tie it as pinch runner Liz Kruckenberg scores on Ally Happ's bunt attempt
  • Happ steals second with one out. The next batter, Riley Feeley, flies out to right and Happ was awarded home on an obstruction on the third baseman for the wlakoff win
Top performers Game two highlights
  • The game was scoreless until the fourth when UWL hit a two-run single
  • In the bottom of the frame, Wells doubles in Kruckenberg to make it 2-1
  • In the top of the seventh, UWL had bases loaded with two outs. The next batter flew out to right to give the Knights one more trip to the plate
  • Fellows singled in Feeley to knot it at two all
  • Reagan Hassel singled to left field and Fellows moved to second
  • After a pitching change and a strikeout, Luellen drew a walk to load the bases
  • Bella Mulder hit a single to centerfield to score Fellows for the walkoff

  • Fellows moved her hitting streak to eight
  • Wartburg moved its winning streak to four
  •  The Knights lead 12-7 in the series against UWL
