Baseball Falls to Nebraska Wesleyan in Doubleheader

LINCOLN, Neb. – Baseball was swept in today's doubleheader against Nebraska Wesleyan University to close American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) regular season play. NWU took game one 4-0 and game two 4-3 to move to 21-16 overall and 11-10 in A-R-C play, while Wartburg is now 18-16 overall and 12-12 in A-R-C play.

  • Game One
    • Third Inning
      • Neither team recorded a hit until the bottom of the third when Nebraska Wesleyan got two hits, but Emerson Alberhasky picked up a strikeout to get out of the jam
    • Fourth Inning
      • Keegan Schmitt recorded Wartburg's first hit in the fourth, but the Knights were unable to bring him home
      • NWU was first on the board after two walks and two steals led the Prairie Wolves to a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0
    • Fifth Inning
      • Two hits in the fifth brought home another run for NWU in the fifth to make 2-0
    • Sixth Inning
      • Eliot Jurgensen singled for Wartburg's second hit of the game in the sixth
      • Nebraska Wesleyan loaded the bases in the sixth inning and got another run across following a sacrifice fly that pushed the lead to 3-0
    • Seventh Inning
      • NWU hit a triple and then a double in back-to-back at bats to add another run and make it 4-0 after seven innings of play
    • Ninth Inning
      • Wartburg went three up-three down in each of the final three innings to close out a 4-0 Nebraska Wesleyan win
  • Game Two
    • First Inning
      • Jurgensen doubled and Carter Stubitz walked to set up a two out RBI single from Schmitt to make it a 1-0 game after one inning
    • Second Inning
    • Third Inning
      • Schmitt added another run to Wartburg's total with a solo home run to left center field
      • NWU turned a double into a run in the bottom half of the third to make the score 3-1 after three innings
    • Fourth Inning
      • Another double followed by a single brought another run across for NWU to cut the Wartburg lead to 3-2 after four innings
    • Seventh Inning
      • A leadoff single followed by two doubled in the seventh inning for the Praire Wolves pushed two more runs across to give NWU its first lead of the game 4-3
    • Ninth Inning
      • The Prairie Wolves closed out a 4-3 win with a one-two-three ninth inning defensively
