Five-Run Eighth Inning Sparks 6-3 Comeback Win for Baseball

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – Baseball erased a 3-0 deficit in the eighth inning to defeat the University of Wisconsin-Platteville 6-3 on the road on Tuesday, Apr. 29. Wartburg is now 19-17 overall and UW-Platteville is now 17-16 overall.

  • First Inning
    • The Pioneers brought the first run of the game across with an RBI single in the opening frame
  • Sixth Inning
    • After four scoreless innings of play from each team, UW-Platteville added two more runs to make it 3-0 after a two-RBI double to the right-center gap
  • Eighth Inning
  • Ninth Inning
    • Eliot Jurgensen singled to leadoff the ninth and was eventually brought home by a sacrifice bunt from Keegan Schmitt to add another run and make the score 6-3 headed to the bottom of the ninth
    • Conner Funk closed out the final two innings on the mound, including a three-up, three-down bottom of the ninth to hold off the Pioneers 6-3
