Knights split with Spartans

DUBUQUE, Iowa—The Wartburg softball team (16-10 overall, 5-1 American Rivers) split with Dubuque (15-9, 4-4) Tuesday. The Knights won the opener 5-3 but fell in the finale, 10-1 in five innings.
 
Game one
First inning
  • Bella Mulder doubled down the left field line to score Sydney Fellows for the 1-0 lead
  • Dubuque hit a two-run single down the right field line to take the 2-1 lead
Fourth inning
  • Wartburg scored two on an error to reclaim the lead at 3-2
Fifth inning
  • Carley Bredar sacrificed in Fellows on her sac fly to center for the 4-2 lead
  • UD hits an RBI single to slice the margin to 4-3 
Seventh inning  
Top performers  
Notes/streaks:
  • Luellen's sixth complete game of the season
  • Fellows had a career-high four hits
  • Her four total hits are the second-most in a game in school history (one shy of the school record)

  • Dubuque plated five, thanks in part to a two-run double

  • The Knights got on the scoreboard with an RBI single from Jenna Wiebenga
