Softball wins A-R-C Regular Season Championship

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg softball team (24-14 overall, 11-5 American Rivers Conference) won the A-R-C Regular Season title with the sweep over Coe. The Knights won 5-3 and 8-2 Saturday afternoon.

This is the fourth regular season crown in program history (2001, 2006, 2008, 2025) and first since 2008. 

The Orange and Black tied atop the league standings with Simpson, and due to tiebreakers, will be the No. 2 seed for the conference tournament next weekend.

  • Coe plated one on a stolen base

  • Wiebenga hit a leadoff homer of her own over the left field fence to make it 3-1
Sixth inning
  • Rylie Metz drove in Riley Feely from second on her single to right center and Carley Bredar scored on Fellows' single to left to make it 5-1
Seventh inning
  • Coe rallied for two runs on consecutive RBI groundouts to make it 5-3 with two outs
  • The next batter drew a walk and the next batter grounded out to end the threat and seal the win for the Knights

Second inning
  • The Kohawks were the first team on the board with an RBI groundout for the 1-0 lead
Third inning Fifth inning
  • The game remained tied until Coe pushed one across on an RBI double
  • Wartburg would answer with a five-run inning to reclaim the lead for good
  • Addy Wells hit a two-run single to center field which was followed by a two-run double from Metz
  • Metz scored on Carley Bredar's single to right which made it 6-2
Sixth inning
  • The Knights added two more as Fellows scored on a wild pitch and Hassel and Kiefer traded places on Kiefer's double to left
Seventh inning
  • The Kohawks were retired in order to seal the sweep and championship for Wartburg

The Orange and Black will return to action next Saturday at the A-R-C Tournament. The Knights received a first-round bye and will play Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Opponent TBD based on Sunday's league games.
