WAVERLY, Iowa – Carter Bornemeier has been named the next Director of Athletic Communications at Wartburg College,
John Cochrane, the Lowell J. Walker Athletics Directorship Endowed Chair announced today.
"We are so pleased to have Carter joining us in this really critical leadership position," said Cochrane. "He brings a tremendous passion for the work, a broad range of talents and experiences in the profession, and a strong commitment to taking a leadership role in promoting Wartburg athletics on the wide variety of platforms utilized by our constituents of all ages. I know our staff is excited to welcome Carter and to begin working with him in this important capacity."
Bornemeier is a graduate of Northwest Missouri State University, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in sports management before earning a master's degree in applied sports sciences. While studying at NW Missouri State, Bornemeier worked as both an athletics communications graduate assistant and athletics marketing intern.
Throughout these roles, Bornemeier executed game day operations for 16 athletic programs and served as the main primary communications contact for Women's Basketball, Soccer, Baseball, Indoor/Outdoor Track & Field and Cross Country. He also excelled in content creation and social media management for multiple university affiliated social media accounts as well as the main athletics homepage at NW Missouri State through his graphic design and photography skills.
In 2021, Bornemeier graduated from Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC). While at DMACC, he earned his sports management associate degree and was a two-year member of the baseball team. He also has served as the head coach of his hometown legion baseball club for the past four years in Nehawka, Neb.
"I'm incredibly honored to join the Wartburg community and support such a proud and successful athletic tradition," said Bornemeier. "The opportunity to tell the stories of Wartburg's exceptional student athletes and coaches is a responsibility I'm excited to take on. I look forward to building on the college's strong foundation and continuing to grow its presence both regionally and nationally."
Bornemeier is set to begin his role on Monday, Aug. 4.
