Two Second Half Scores Lead to 1-1 Draw Againt Bethel

ST. Paul, Minn. – Men's soccer had its first draw of the season on Monday, Sept. 1 after two second-half goals led to a 1-1 draw against Bethel University. The Knights are now 1-0-1 overall to begin the 2025 season.
 
Match Summary
  • First Half
    • Bethel got the match underway with a flurry of shots, including one on goal saved by Kaden Baxter in the first minute of play
    • After both teams traded control of possession, Wartburg recorded its first shot of the match when Flori Gembo had a scoring opportunity in the 13th minute that was saved by the Bethel keeper
    • The Knights had two corner kick chances in the 17th minutes, but was unable to put any shots on target
    • Tyler Howe put a shot on goal late in the 34th minute that was also saved by Bethel to keep the match scoreless
    • The match continued to stay tied 0-0 headed into halftime
  • Second Half
    • The Knights came out of the halftime break and had two corner kick opportunities and recorded four shots in the first 10 minutes of play, but the match remained scoreless
    • The Wartburg attack continued when the Knights forced three more corner kick opportunities before Gembo fired a shot on target in the 61st minute that was saved by the Royals
    • Minutes later, Wartburg finally found the back of the net after Mott found Alima Mmunga on a pass and then he beat the keeper with a strike to break the tie and give Wartburg a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute
    • Bethel was able to respond a minute later with a cross that was finished by a header to knot the match back up at 1-1
    • Wartburg kept the pressure applied to the Bethel defense as they finished the final 20 minutes with seven total shots, including shots on goal from Gembo and Sam McDevitt
    • Bethel held off the Knights attack to secure a 1-1 draw
