Women's Soccer Defeated by Saint Mary's University on the Road

WINONA, Minn. – Women's soccer was defeated 3-0 on the road in nonconference play by Saint Mary's University on Wednesday, Sept. 10. The Knights are now 1-4 overall and the Cardinals move to 5-0.
 
Match Summary
  • First Half
    • Wartburg's defense was tested early when SMU forced two corner kicks in the first five minutes of play that resulted in one save from Mackenzie Ceschan and another off target shot
    • The Cardinals got on the board first with a goal scored in the 15th minute when Lauryn Skoruppa scored her seventh goal of the season to make it 1-0
    • Nikayla Youngblut fired a low shot on goal in the 19th minute, but it was saved to keep the score 1-0
    • Ceschan made another save in the 29th minute and then both defenses held the opposing offense to no more shots the rest of the half
  • Second Half
    • Both Allison Smith and Maya Anderson started the half with a shot, but neither could find the target for the Knights
    • Skoruppa added another goal for Saint Mary's in the 67th minute to push the score to 2-0
    • SMU added another goal in the 81st minute to make it a 3-0 deficit and held off the Knights for a 3-0 win
      • Paige Lienhard fired a shot on goal late in the 89th minute that was saved
