Women's Soccer Earns Shutout Win Over Macalester 1-0

WAVERLY, Iowa – Women's soccer returned home to Salzwedel Field and picked up a hard-fought 1-0 win over Macalester College on Saturday, Sept. 13. The Knights are now 2-4 overall and the Scots move to 3-2 overall.
 
Match Summary
  • First Half
    • Each side traded a shot on goal in the first 10 minutes of the match
      • Athena Sheets recorded Wartburg's first shot on goal of the match
    • Sami Webster was denied a goal in the 10th minute, but minutes later in the 12th, she would beat the keeper after a great feed from Sheets to put the Knights ahead 1-0
    • Sheets recorded another shot on goal and the Knights stayed aggressive with other shot attempts that fell off target from Claudia Sewell, Nikayla Youngblut and Allison Smith
    • Tulla Jensen made her second save of the match in the 29th minute before both Claire Lienhard and Maya Anderson had shots saved on the other end in the 41st and 42nd minutes
    • The Knights took a 1-0 lead into halftime
  • Second Half
    • After a quiet start to the second half, Jensen made another save in the 60th minute to keep the Knights ahead 1-0
    • Macalester was unable to record any shots on goal despite three shot attempts between the 75th and 85th minutes
      • Sewell recorded a shot on goal that was saved by Macalester in the 86th minute
    • The Knights continued to play tough defense to hold off the Scots for a 1-0 win at home
