WAVERLY, Iowa – Women's soccer continued nonconference play on Sunday, Sept. 14 where Illinois Wesleyan University was able to hold off a late Wartburg push to defeat the Knights 2-1. The 89th minute goal from
Avery Mize marks her first career collegiate goal over her time at Wartburg.
Wartburg is now 2-5 overall and Illinois Wesleyan moves to 3-2 overall.

- First Half
- Each side recorded a shot on goal attempt in the first three minutes of the match when Lindsay Overmann fired a shot on goal for the Knights and then Tulla Jensen made a save for Wartburg on the other end
- The Titans were first on the scoreboard when they found the back of the net in the sixth minute to make it 1-0 early
- IWU added another score in the 16th minute to make it 2-0
- Both Allison Smith and Claudia Sewell recorded shots on goal in the final minutes that were saved by the IWU keeper

- The Knights continued to stay aggressive out of the halftime break with early shots on goal from Nikayla Youngblut and Athena Sheets, but both shot attempts were saved by the Titans
- A corner kick in the 79th minute led to shots from Paige Lienhard and Sami Webster as well as a shot on goal from Sheets that was saved in the 83rd minute
- The Knights continued to fight and in the 89th minute, Wartburg got on the scoreboard to make it 2-1 when Youngblut found Avery Mize who beat the keeper for the score
- IWU was able to hold off the Knights in the final minutes to secure a 2-1 win
