DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Wartburg College volleyball team (6-3 overall) fought back from two sets down but dropped a five-set match to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls at the Stotlz Sports Center on Saturday.
Wartburg dropped its first two sets before battling back to win the second and third to force a fifth. UW-River Falls used a stagnant defensive effort to claim a 16-14 victory to win the match.
Kaylee Koudelka led with a season-high 15 kills, while
Anna Sash added nine.
Peyton Robinson dug out a season-high 27, while
Sophie Sedgwick provided 20 assists and ASpen Falk added 16 in a match that featured 25 ties and 12 lead changes.
Anna Sash continued her weekend dominance by getting Wartburg on the board with an early kill. An ace by
Leah Hayungs gave the Knights a set-high lead of five at 12-7. Wartburg held a four-point lead late in the opening set, 22-18, before the Falcons rallied on a 7-2 scoring run to take the first set, 25-23.
Sophie Sedgwick tallied the second set's first point with a kill. Another hefty run by UW-River Falls resulted in an eight-point deficit for Wartburg. The early surge from the Falcons was too much to overcome in set two, as they claimed a 2-0 advantage heading into the third. The Knights were held to just a .067 attack percentage.
Wartburg attack at a much higher percentage in the third set, finishing at .229 while holding UW-River Falls to its match-low of .086. The Knights sent back five Falcon attempts in the set. Things were knotted up at 21, as a service error by UW-River Falls sparked a Wartburg 5-1 run to avoid the sweeping, taking the third set 25-22.
Riding its momentum, Wartburg led 8-4 after
Kaylee Anderson spiked one inside the lines. UW-River Falls fought back, tying the set at 13 after a swift 7-4 spurt.

The Knights head to Northfield, Minn., to take on the St. Olaf/Carelton Invitational. Wartburg opens up with the University of Minnesota Morris at 5 p.m., on Friday, Sept. 19 on the campus of Carelton.
