Balanced attack lifts Wartburg past Augsburg in four sets

WAVERLY, Iowa – The Wartburg College volleyball team (10-5 overall, 1-0 A-R-C) earned a four-set victory over Augsburg University (6-7 overall, 1-0 MIAC) on Saturday inside Levick Arena. The Knights defeated the Auggies by scores of 25-13, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-18. 

Wartburg's offense found balance throughout the lineup, finishing with 51 kills to Augsburg's 43. The Knights also controlled the service game with 11 aces compared to four for the Auggies. 

Anna Sash led the way with 12 kills, six blocks, and two aces. Kaylee Koudelka (11 kills) and Liv Anderson (10 kills) joined her in double figures offensively. Sophie Sedgwick directed the attack with 31 assists, while Alexa Melcher anchored the back row with 21 digs. 

After dominating the opening set 25-13, Wartburg dropped a tight second set, 26-24. The Knights responded by regaining momentum in the third,  to take a 25-20 win before closing out the match with a 25-18 decision in set four. 

Augsburg was led by Taliah Triggs with 14 kills and Marley Mitchell with 10. 

Wartburg finished the night with a .188 hitting percentage, adding 10 team blocks and 77 digs. 

Two members of the Knights' squad earned All-Tournament honors for their performances over the weekend – Anna Sash and Peyton Robinson.
